Millennium Treasures - Making a Future out of the Past.
This year will see the launch of Millennium Treasures, an exciting high profile, celebrity led campaign in which the whole nation has a part to play.
At its simplest Millennium Treasures is a vote by the people of Britain to determine and celebrate the nations greatest cultural treasures. It will encourage a sense of ownership of Britain's cultural heritage at the turn of the millennium.
Museums up and down the country will be showcasing their nominations throughout 1999 and 2000, with an extensive events programme commencing in January 1999.
Loyd Grossman, Chairman of The Campaign for Museums added: "The debate on what makes a national treasure is likely to range far and wide before there is any kind of consensus. Museums are the places to test out some of your own ideas and we hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to visit their local museums and decide for themselves what is a treasure!"
